Degrees of Separation

These two pictures crossed my screen during the past week and I was struck by the similarities: the red drapery, the small moment of gray near the elbow, the contrapposto and the anguish.

On the left, Susanna and the Elders, by Artemisia Gentileschi (oil on canvas at the Schloss Weissenstein, Pommersfelden) came by way of Carol Diehl's Art Vent.

On the right, a newspaper photo from an LA Times story by Diane Haithman: "...world premiere production that also represents the first original production to be created by the UCLA Live series: a new interpretation of the Euripides classic "Medea," starring Annette Bening and directed by Croatia's Lenka Udovicki."
